Did you know that besides being about national pet adoptions, June is all about pride? In my mind, they are the perfect match. Why? Because my female feels a sense of pride when she shares with people that I am adopted. As a dog whose mission it is to demonstrate how to give fearlessly and influence positively, I feel a sense of pride when strangers appreciate my efforts.
LGBTQ spells Grouchy Puppy
As part of my efforts as a muse for Grouchy Puppy, I want to come out and show my support for the LGBTQ community. As a dog who knows a little about being stereotyped, I care about people - especially those who get painted with a brush held by someone with a narrow mind.
I have seen the spark of understanding, and enlightenment, once someone gets to know me, shedding their old views of who or what they thought I was.
President Obama, papa to Bo Obama, declared June LGBT Pride Month. This was my favorite sentence from his proclamation,
"I call upon the people of the United States to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists, and to celebrate the great diversity of the American people."
Because I've been discriminated against, then embraced, I believe in people's ability to change once they accept who I really am. Someone who just wants love and respect.
I may look scary. I may look different. However, when you decide to not cross the street to avoid me, but instead, slow down as I approach, and get to know me - you will be glad you did. I promise.
